Brian Swanson Commits to Texas | Continues the Longhorns Hot Streak

The Texas Longhorns have added another major piece to their 2027 recruiting class, as South Oak Cliff offensive lineman Brian Swanson has officially committed to Texas. The four-star offensive tackle chose the Longhorns over Oklahoma & SMU, giving Steve Sarkisian and his staff another major recruiting victory in their own backyard.
Standing at 6’5″ & 315-lbs, Swanson already has the size and physicality that college coaches look for in an offensive lineman. The South Oak Cliff standout has experience playing both tackle and guard, giving him valuable versatility along the offensive line, but Texas is recruiting him primarily as an offensive tackle. His combination of size, strength and athleticism has quickly made him one of the more intriguing offensive line prospects in the 2027 class.

Swanson has been a major part of South Oak Cliff’s success over the past several seasons, helping the Golden Bears consistently make deep playoff runs while competing against some of the best programs in Texas. In 2025, South Oak Cliff reached its fifth consecutive 5A Division II state championship game and captured its third state title during that span. Swanson’s ability to contribute at multiple positions along the offensive line has made him an important piece of one of the state’s premier programs.
His recruitment featured plenty of competition, with Swanson holding roughly 36 DI offers before narrowing his list. Programs such as Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M were among the schools to pursue the Dallas area standout, while Oklahoma & SMU remained major contenders late in the process. After visiting Texas, Oklahoma and SMU during the spring and early summer, Swanson ultimately decided that Austin was the best fit for his future.
For Texas, landing Swanson is another important step in building the foundation of its 2027 recruiting class. The Longhorns have continued to prioritize elite in-state talent, and adding a player of Swanson’s size and versatility gives the program another potential long-term starter in the trenches. His commitment also gives Texas another player with extensive experience playing at a championship level before even arriving on campus.
What makes Swanson particularly intriguing is the combination of his physical tools and athletic ability. Despite weighing more than 300 pounds, he has shown the ability to move well in space, climb to the second level and finish blocks downfield. He was also named an offensive line MVP at the Under Armour Next camp in Texas earlier this year, further highlighting the national attention he has received throughout the recruiting cycle.
With Swanson now in the fold, Texas has added another cornerstone piece to its 2027 class and another elite offensive lineman from the state of Texas. The Longhorns won a competitive recruiting battle for one of the state’s top trench prospects, and now Swanson will look to finish his high school career at South Oak Cliff before bringing his physical style of play to Austin. If his development continues on its current trajectory, Texas could have a future difference-maker protecting its quarterback for years to come.
