John Meredith III Commits to Texas over Alabama & Texas A&M

The No. 1 cornerback in the Class of 2027 just announced that he will be taking his talents to the University of Texas on Friday.

He picked the Longhorns over in-state rivals Texas A&M after taking official visits to both programs over the past month. This now makes John the highest rated non-QB prospect to ever commit to the Longhorns.

John is a 6’2, 180-lb cornerback for North Crowley High School, who is the No. 1 cornerback in the Class of 2027 no matter what site you look at. He is also the No. 2 overall recruit in this cycle, continuing the Longhorns amazing list of offseason additions.

Texas A&M seemed to have this on lock early on but Steve Sarkisian & Co. were able to close that gap pretty quickly when things mattered most. Alabama & Ohio State also were able to creep into the battle along with Miami but this race really was between the two top teams in the Lone Star State.

John repeatedly was on campus with the Longhorns and really built a relationship with Texas CBs coach Mark Orphey & new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. Orphey has sent off countless NFL DBs including most recently Malik Muhhamad who was a highly touted HS prospect out of the DFW himself.

He now joins Easton Royal, Kasi Currie, Brock Williams & Cameron Hall as the 5th Top-100 commitment the Longhorns have been able to pull into this 2027 class. Guys like Ismael Camara, Landen Williams-Callis, Monshun Sales, Montre Jackson & Brandon Sherrard are all potential Longhorns as well which could shape up for an absolutely insane 2027 haul.
