There have been a lot of hot teams in the months of June & July for recruiting, but Clemson might just be the hottest. On top of that they aren’t getting nearly the same attention that schools like Texas & Miami have been able to get. On Saturday the Tigers just landed one of the top prospects in the Class of 2023 in five-star defensive lineman Peter Woods.
Peter Woods is a five-star defensive lineman for Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama. Woods has helped Thompson High to three straight 7A State Title appearances, and has been making an impact since his freshman season. 247Sports has him ranked as the No. 23 prospect in the Class of 2023, and the No. 4 player in Alabama. He has over 30 offers but cut his list down to four on June 14th. Alabama, Florida, Jackson State and Clemson were his shortlist but his connection with Dabo Swinney won him over for the Tigers.
This now jumps the Tigers into the Top-3 of the recruiting rankings for the 2023 cycle. Peter Woods leads the pack for Clemson along with quarterback Christopher Vizzina; ironically both prospects are Alabama natives. Clemson has recently beefed up their trenches offensively as well with commitments from Harris Sewell, and Zechariah Owens.
It is going to be a tight battle for the No. 1 class in the 2023 cycle, but obviously Clemson is right in the thick of that race. Teams like Texas, Ohio State, & Tennessee are all surging heavily and will be right there with Clemson. That almost feels crazy to think considering how many people assumed Clemson would be falling off with the new NIL era. Not just that but losing both coordinators who have been staples of your dynasty too. Dabo Swinney has shown that none of that will stop him, and he can adapt to the new culture of college football.
