The Arch Manning effect is already taking Austin by storm. Since his commitment the Longhorns have added star prospects like Derek Williams, Trevor Goosby and Jaydon Chatman. Wednesday evening that list got even longer with the addition of five-star WR Johntay Cook II.
Johntay Cook II is a five-star wide receiver out of DeSoto High School. Cook checks in just under 6’0, and weighs in at 175-pounds. He just recently earned his fifth star from 247Sports composite rankings, and is ranked as the No. 6 WR in the Class of ‘23. It’s no surprise to see him holding over 40 offers but recently he cut that list down to Michigan & Oregon.
This now gives the Longhorns three of the Top-40 receivers, and two in the Top-12 for the Class of 2023. They also have two tight ends, one of them being teammates with Arch Manning over at Isidore Newman High School. Texas has piled on the weapons since Steve Sarkisian took over in Austin and is looking to build one of the best offenses in the nation.
Texas is still hot on the trail of many top prospects in the Lone Star state. Anthony Hill Jr and Malik Muhammad are both heavily favored to land with the Longhorns but still could end up Aggies as well. Same can be said for four-star edge rusher Derion Gullette.
