Former 5-Star DL Walter Nolen Enters the Transfer Portal

The transfer portal officially opens at midnight tonight, and right before it officially opened one of the biggest recruits in the past five recruiting cycles announced he would be entering the portal. Former five-star defensive lineman Walter Nolen announced he will be entering the portal just two seasons after signing with Texas A&M’s historic recruiting class
Walter Nolen was the No. 2 recruit in the 2022 recruiting cycle behind Travis Hunter and is one of the highest rated defensive linemen in 247Sports recruiting data base. He is from Powell High School in Powell, Tennessee and as you could imagine, had every offer in the book coming out of high school. His recruitment really came down to Tennessee and Texas A&M with schools like Florida and Alabama also involved.

This is now the fifth player to enter the transfer portal since Jimbo Fisher was fired, and it is expected many more will come. I expect names like Jacoby Mathews, and Evan Stewart to be hot commodities in the transfer portal market along with a few others. We could also see the Aggies 17th ranked recruiting class take some blows as well.
Jimbo Fisher was a big part in getting Nolen to A&M, and with his departure it makes sense to see Walter Nolen want to test the waters. As of right now it is hard to tell where exactly Nolen could be favoring, but you have to think Tennessee & Florida are going to heavily be in the mix once again.
A team to look out for could be the Syracuse Orange as they recently just hired Texas A&M’s interim head coach Elijah Robinson, who was in charge of the defensive line before Jimbo Fisher was let go, as defensive coordinator. A lot of players were very vocal about how much they loved Coach Rob, and many were even wanting him to be the head coach at A&M.
