Earlier today someone posted a joking photo that J.J. Watt had updated his Peloton account to “GB, CLE, & BUF). Watt didn’t take long to throw those rumors in the trash, and actually gave an update on the situation himself.
The Arizona Cardinals and Watt came to terms on a 2-year deal worth $31M, and $23M of the contract is guaranteed. This deal would put him currently as the 9th highest paid defensive end in the NFL.
If you were unaware, Watt spent the first 10-years of his career with the Houston Texans. During that time he racked up five All-Pro selections and three AP Defensive Player of the Year awards. He’s also led the league in sacks twice, and on top of that he is one of the members of the “100 Sacks Club”. Off the field J.J. Watt won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2017 for raising over $37M in Hurricane Harvey relief.
Watt now gets to reunite with former Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins was dealt back in March of 2020 for David Johnson, a 2nd round pick and a ‘21 4th round pick.
