Legendary HC Nick Saban Announces His Retirement From Alabama

As they say, all good things must come to an end. After winning seven national titles, six of them with the University of Alabama, head coach Nick Saban announced that he will be retiring from College Football.

Nick Saban just completed his 17th season with the Crimson Tide, and his 28th year as a CFB head coach. His overall record in that span was 292-71-1, and won 12 conference championships along with 19 bowl wins. He is also the only head coach with two undefeated national championship teams which he helped accomplish back in 2009 & 2020.

Saban wasn’t just dominant on the field though. He also dominated on the recruiting trail landing 18 No. 1 overall recruiting classes as a head coach. No other head coach has been a part of more than three.

It’s been reported that Nick Saban grew increasingly tired of the way that college football was changing, and was even public about his concerns with the “new age” of college football. The tampering rules, transfer portal, mega NIL deals, and everything else that has been added to college football has made it harder and harder for Nick Saban to coach the way he likes, and felt this would be the best time for him to step away.

Many speculate that Saban will step into some sort of television role for ESPN, or whatever network he chooses, but as of now his future is unclear. He will also still probably have a pretty major role within Alabama football, or at least till he feels the reins have properly been handed over.

As far as Alabama’s future goes, the Crimson Tide’s athletic director Greg Byrne said their process for finding their new head coach will be “thorough but expedient”. He also said if you didn’t hear it from me, don’t believe it in regards to any rumors that might come out within the next coming days.
