Monshun Sales Commits to the Hoosiers | Highest Rated Recruit EVER for Indiana

Indiana football just landed the biggest recruiting commitment in program history. Five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales has officially committed to the Hoosiers, choosing to stay home and play for Curt Cignetti over a loaded group of finalists that included Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Texas. The decision gives Indiana its first-ever five-star commitment and adds another major milestone to a program that has completely transformed over the past few seasons.
Sales is one of the most highly regarded players in the entire 2027 recruiting class. The 6’5″, roughly 195-pound wide receiver is ranked as a consensus Top-20 prospect nationally, with 247Sports ranking him among the very best receivers in the country. His combination of size, athleticism and playmaking ability has made him one of the most coveted wide receivers in the class, with nearly every major program in the country making a push for his commitment.
What makes this commitment even more significant is that Sales didn’t choose Indiana simply because it was the school closest to home. The Hoosiers beat out some of the biggest names in college football for one of the nation’s elite prospects. Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Texas all had legitimate opportunities to land Sales, but the relationships he built with Cignetti and the Indiana coaching staff ultimately made Bloomington feel like home. Sales specifically pointed to the relationships with Cignetti, offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan and the rest of the staff as a major factor in his decision.
On the field, Sales brings a level of talent that Indiana has never had in a high school recruiting commitment. During his junior season at Lawrence North, he recorded 794 receiving yards and nine touchdowns while also making an impact on defense with 56 tackles. His athletic ability extends beyond football as well, as Sales has competed in track and field and qualified for the state meet in the 100M dash, 200M dash & long jump.
For Cignetti and the Hoosiers, this commitment represents much more than adding another talented receiver to the roster. Indiana has spent the past few seasons proving that it can compete on the field, and now the program is starting to see that success translate onto the recruiting trail. After winning the first national championship in program history, Indiana has suddenly become a legitimate destination for some of the best players in the country, and landing Sales is perhaps the biggest proof yet.
Sales also gives Indiana a potential centerpiece for its 2027 recruiting class. His commitment helped elevate the Hoosiers’ class and gives the program a player capable of attracting even more elite talent to Bloomington. Landing the No. 1 receiver in the country, depending on the recruiting service, while competing directly with programs like Texas, Alabama, LSU and Ohio State is the type of recruiting victory that can change how a program is viewed nationally.
For Sales, the decision gives him the opportunity to do something that very few recruits will ever get the chance to do: become the first. He isn’t simply joining Indiana as another highly rated recruit. He is now the first five-star commitment in program history and the highest-rated recruit ever committed to the Hoosiers. If he eventually signs with Indiana, he will become the program’s first ever five-star high school signee.
Just a few years ago, a recruiting battle between Indiana and programs like Alabama, Ohio State, LSU and Texas for one of the nation’s best players would have seemed almost impossible. Now, the Hoosiers have won that battle. Monshun Sales has officially made history, and his decision could prove to be one of the most important recruiting moments in Indiana football history.
