Lincoln Riley has done it again. To no one’s surprise the Sooners have just landed yet another elite quarterback prospect. Earlier today five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson announced his commitment to the University of Oklahoma.
Malachi Nelson is a five-star quarterback out of Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, California. According to 247Sports composite rankings Nelson is the No. 2 quarterback in the Class of 2023, and the No. 4 overall prospect in the class. He currently stands 6’3, 180-pounds and is a very effortless athlete with the ball in his hands. As of now Malachi has over 25 offers from schools like Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, and of course Oklahoma.
“This is a special place and when I finally got on campus, I felt really comfortable with the staff, the environment, just the vibe on campus” – Malachi Nelson

He joins four-star running back Treyaun Webb as the first two commits in the Sooners 2023 recruiting class. Oklahoma is favored by a lot of top recruits in the 2023 cycle including the No. 2 overall recruit in the class Lebbeus Overton. Nelson is also teammates with two other five-star receivers at Los Alamitos who are rumored to be OU leans as well. If Lincoln Riley and the Sooners can reel in those names I just mentioned, plus a few other names as well, we could be looking at a class that can get Oklahoma over the SEC hump.
