The Wolverines just landed the top rated prospect in the state of Michigan. Five-star cornerback Will Johnson announced his commitment to Michigan via social media. Johnson is the son of former Wolverine cornerback Deon Johnson. He also is the highest rated in-state recruit to commit to the University of Michigan since LaMarr Woodley back in 2003.
Will Johnson is a five-star cornerback out of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He plays for Grosse Pointe South High School which is located about an hour out from Ann Arbor. 247Sports has him as the top prospect in the state of Michigan and the No. 5 cornerback in the Class of 2022. His huge frame (6’3, 190-pounds) is something the Wolverines are going to love having on the outside considering their struggles at the defensive back position.
Schools like Oklahoma, Arizona State, LSU and many more all offered a scholarship to Johnson. The final three schools he would be picking from however were Ohio State, USC and of course Michigan. He mentioned he wants this to become the recruiting class that switches things back into gear for Michigan.
“I would say I look at (as they need some corners). It’s an opportunity to come in and play early and get on the field.”

This is now the sixth commitment for the Wolverines in the 2022 recruiting cycle. After struggling all year long with a suspect secondary Michigan recruited all over the nation to improve the unit. He now joins four-star out of Tennessee, Taylor Groves and Kody Jones, in what looks to be a very talented group of defensive backs.
